August 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, the consumption of two fruit juices each day has been linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes in African-American women.
The study, called the Black Women’s Health Study, was conducted with the help of 43,000 participants.
These women were tracked for a decade, as researchers aimed to try and figure out how their drinking habits impacted their risk for developing diabetes.
What they found was that women who consumed fruit juices such as fruit punch, Snapple, Kool-Aid and ot hers faced a 31% increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to women who did not consume these drinks.
Other drinks which were linked to the development of diabetes were soft drinks, which are high in calories.
Drinks which were not linked to an increased diabetes risk include diet soft drinks, orange juice, and grapefruit juice.
