U.S. Agency Says Lead In Artificial Turf Poses No Health Risk
August 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a report this week, stating that small amounts of lead found in artificial turf pose absolutely no health or safety threat to children.
Back in April, the New Jersey Department of Health put in a request that the agency take a closer look at artificial turf fields.
This came after they found that many of the older fields began to emit levels of lead which they believed could have posed a health risk.
The commission followed up by studying the artificial fields and the amount of lead.
Tests were conducted to see how much lead exposure could be handled by children, and found that the amounts in the artificial fields were not enough to pose any risk to their health.
This includes newer, as well as older artificial turf fields.
The fear was that lead exposure could lead to nurological, a nd brain problems for young kids, but this appears to not be the case after all.
