Many Sunscreens Do Not Protect Against Sun’s Harmful Rays
August 4, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - A market research firm known as Mintel conducted a study on more than 750 sunscreens, and found that many to not protect against the harmful rays of the Sun.
Scientists have urged in the past that it is important to stay protected from both UVB rays, as well as UVA rays.
What researchers found was that the majority of sunscreens on the market do protect against UVB rays, which cause your skin to burn.
On the other hand though, there is a problem with sunscreens not protecting against UVA rays, which are linked to aging.
Researchers stated that no matter what the SPF number is on the bottle, it does not mean they protect against UVA rays.
The issue at hand though is that SPF only shows protection against UVB, while both types of rays can lead to skin cancer.
Experts are warning people to be sure that their sunscreen protects aganst both types of harmful rays.
The recommendation is to wear at least an SPF of 15 when it is sunny outside.
