Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study published in the American Journal of Medicine, Americans are drinking less alcohol than ever.
The study was carried out by looking at 8,000 records from the Framingham Heart Study, which allowed them to measure alcohol consumption over a period of 50-years.
The Framingham Heart Study was a study which looked at subjects born between 1900 to 1959.
It interviewed these participants every four years from 1948 to 2003.
According to the study, Americans are consuming less alcohol than ever.
They found that when Americans do drink, they are going for wine far more often than they are going for beer.
They also found an increased in the number of people who say they are non-drinkers.
Further research found that people who were born later on in the 20th century, consumed more alcohol compared to Americans born in the early century.
Lead investigator Yuqing Zhang of the Boston University School of Medicine made it clear that heavy drinking has decreased over the course of the 50-years.
Health problems related to alcohol, on the other, hand, did not decline. This has been backed up by researchers, who stated it is still important to spread the message about illnesses caused by alcohol.
