August 13, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The Humane Society has rescued mroe than 360 animals from a property on southwest Missouri on Tuesday.
Authorities state that the animals were kept there to breed, with many of them being emaciated, and injured.
The Humane Society worked along with authorities in Polk County, using warrants to get inside the home.
The home received a warning a month before, as the Humane Society pushed to have the care of the animals improved.
This led to the famiy letting many of the animals loose from their cages, to roam the streets before authorities even arrived.
Other events led up to this as well, as six kids between the ages of 1 and 11 were removed from the home by child welfare workers a week ago.
The owner of the property, 61-year old Virginia Gambriel was arrested and charged on two counts of felony child endangerment.
In total, there were 363 domestic and farm animals. Other animals they saw before they arrived at the home had since disappeared. These include horses, birds, mice, etc.
