CDC Reports On Measles Outbreak, Parents To Blame?
August 25, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has come out and stated that the number of measles cases in the U.S. has reached its highest point since 1996, and parents are to blame.
The CDC stated that the U.S. is currently facing the worst measles outbreak since 1996.
Back in 2000, the U.S. government stated that the disease was virtually eradicated within the U.S.
This is not the case anymore though, as the number of cases continue to rise in the U.S.
Measles can be very severe to kids, with symptoms including fever, rash, cough, etc. In more severe cases, symptoms can lead to pneumonia, and even death.
This year alone, there have been over 130 measles cases in the U.S., with a long way to go in the year.
The big problem with the measles in the U.S. is that the infection rate for those who are not vaccinated against it is over 90%.
It is very important for kids to be vaccinated against the measles to keep them protected.
Many parents in the U.S. though refuse to vaccinate their children, for religious reasons, or for other reasons.
The CDC stated that because of this, the measles continues to rise. Nearly all of the cases of the measles this year was a result of kids not being vaccinated against it.
