Poverty Rate Did Not Impact Decrease In Uninsured Americans
August 27, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by the U.S. Census Bureau this week, the number of Americans living without health insurance has declined in the past year. One thing which was also made clear from the report though, is that the poverty rate had no impact on this decrease.
The report revealed that in 2007, the number of Americans living without health insurance of any kind was at 15.3%. This was down from 15.8% in 2006.
The hard numbers show that the total number of uninsured Americans dropped from 47 million to 47.5 million.
This was the first time since President George W. Bush took to the White House, that a decline has taken place.
So what was the reason for this decline? It is actually quite hard to say, but the report revealed that it was not due to the poverty rate.
The poverty rate in 2006 was at 12.3%, and actually increased in 2007 to 12.5%.
What this shows is that the poverty rate had no impact at all on whether or not people could get health insurance of any kind.
This comes as the presidential candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, have health care as a major topic of discussion.
