MA Leads By Example With Health Insurance Programs
August 30, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Just this past week, the U.S. Census Bureau put out new data which revealed that the number of Americans living without health insurance dropped from 2006 to 2007. An example as to why this trend is happening, is the health insurance program in place in the state of Massachusetts.
The U.S. Census Bureau announced this week that the number of uninsured Americans dropped from 15.8% in 2006 to 15.3% in 2007.
The actual numbers show a decrease from 47 million uninsured Americans to 45.7 million uninsured Americans.
On top of that, the number of people with health insurance increased over the course of the past year.
Massachusetts appears to be leading by example, as the number of insured residents in the state is at only 4.7%.
This compares directly to the state in the U.S. with the highest number of uninsured Americans, Texas at 25.5%.
The reason is not due to the residents, but due to the health insurance programs in place.
In the state of Massachusetts, those who do not get health insurance will receive a tax penalty.
On top of that, all employers in the state need to offer health insurance, or they will also have to pay the price.
It is health insurance programs such as these which are leading the way as many push for universal health insurance programs across the country.
This has and will continue to be a major topic between the presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama, and Republican John McCain.
