CDC Links 2.4 Million Cancer Cases To Tobacco In U.S.
September 5, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2.4 million cancer cases in the U.S. have been linked to tobacco.
From 1999 to 2004, the CDC stated that there were 2.4 million cases of tobacco-related cancers that were diagnosed in the U.S.
This was an extremely extensive report put out by the CDC, which is said to account for more than 90% of the population.
They stated that there is now strong evidence that shows tobacco is directly linked to the development of cancer.
Lead author Sherri Steward of the CDC stated that the report provides “strong evidence of the serious harm related to tobacco.”
The two cancers most commonly attributed to tobacco use include lung and laryngeal cancer.
Tobacco has been found to cause a variety of cancers, including kidney, stomach, pancreatic, lung, bronchial, paryngeal, oral cavity, esophageal, renal pelvis, and others.
The report from the CDC was released in their Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
