BPA In Plastic Harms Monkeys, What About Our Babies?
September 8, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, a study has been published and has found that bisphenol A or BPA in plastic products caused problems in monkeys.
The BPA chemical found in many hard plastic products was found to have a negative impact on the brain function, and mood of the monkeys overall.
The study was carried out by researchers from the Yale School of Medicine, and focused on the possible negative effects linked to the chemical.
Over the years, there have been many studies released which have raised concerns about the potential health risks of the chemical.
Many have opposed these concerns though, as the FDA stated recently that BPA at its current exposure levels is perfectly safe for infants and adults.
This new study though does not agree, as researchers found that BPA had a negative impact on the monkeys.
The monkeys in the study were exposed to levels of bisphenol A that were considered to be safe for humans by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
This comes just after U.S. government scientists put out a report citing potential health risks with bisphenol A in baby bottles.
The FDA is set to hold an advisory panel meeting on bisphenol A on September 16, 2008.
