FDA Gives Public A List Of Drugs With Safety Concerns
September 8, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just released a list of drugs which are under investigation for possible safety issues.
The FDA released the list, which is expected to be updated quarterly, online on their Web site.
The idea behind the new list is to better inform those working in health care, as well as patients.
They have begun the process of doing this quarterly due to a law that was passed in 2007 by Congress.
The law stated that the FDA needs to publish any new safety warnings or potential risks associated withd rugs.
These warnings or risks have not been confirmed, but are instead under review by the FDA.
The FDA has made it clear that just because a drug is on the list, does not mean that the FDA has confirmed that it has a safety problem. Instead, it shows a possible issue with the drug.
Each quarterly report released is going to contain a new set of drugs.
The first list put out is from January to March 2008, and contains the names of 20 drugs.
This will be expanded from here in the next quarterly report.
The 20 drugs on this list include Heparin, Oxycodone, and others.
