Los Angeles (dbTechno) – A plan has been approved by the Los Angeles City Council that will require all large chain restaurants in the city to include nutritional information, such as calories, on their menus and menu boards.
The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved this new plan, which will impact only large chain restaurants.
Los Angeles chain restaurants that have 15 or more locations across California are going to have to include nutritional information on their menu boards.
This nutritional information is going to have to be included for all items on the menu.
This comes one month after the California Assemply approved a plan to force restaurants with 20 or more locations to post calorie counts on their menus and menu boards.
The hope now is that California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will sign this bill, so that it can begin to take effect.
If the bill is signed, it would take effect in 20011, and make California the first state in the U.S. to require large restaurant chains to show calorie information.
This new state-side bill is known as SB 1420, and is supported by the California Restaurant Association.
Nutritional information that will be posted includes grams of trans fat, calories, grams of saturated fast, carbohydrates, etc.
