Washington (dbTechno) - On Monday, the Michigan Department of Community Health confirmed four new E. coli cases, bringing the total in the state to 30, with many having to be hospitalized.
The total number of people in Michigan and Illinois who have fallen ill due to the E. coli outbreak now stands at 35 in total.
In Michigan, 13 out of the 30 have had to be hospitalized to date due to the dangerous form of the E. coli bacteria.
In Illinois, two new cases were confirmed on Monday, with all 5 known cases in the state resulting in people in the hospital.
The E. coli outbreak has been traced back to iceberg lettuce shipped in bags from Aunt Mid’s Produce Co., based in Detroit, Michigan.
Many restaurants have already stopped using packaged lettuce altogether.
