Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new report issued on Monday by the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, nearly all nursing homes violate federal health, and safety standards.
The report issued looked at nursing homes in the year 2007, to try and see how they did in terms of keeping up with federal health and safety standards.
Needless to say,k they did not do very good, as 94% of the nursing homes were in violation of the standards set.
There were 37,150 complains received by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2007, all related to conditions in the nursing homes.
When inspectors were sent in, they found direct proof or 39% of the violations, with 20% of them involving abuse or neglect of patients.
There are currently 1.5 million elderly Americans living in nursing homes, and that number is expected to double in the coming years.
A ranking system is going to be implemented and released to detail how well each nursing homeo did.
