(Update 1) Study Shows Dangers Of Consuming Energy Drinks
September 30, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Energy drinks, which are loaded with both caffeine and sugar, have become very popular among teenagers in the U.S. A new study though has shown that they pose a true danger to the health of those who consume them.
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University Hospital have come out and stated that they want the FDA to require warning labels on popular energy drinks.
This is due to the ridiculous level of caffeine content that is in each and every can.
A new study led by Dr. Roland Griffiths has found that many of these energy drinks contain 14 times the caffeine found in just one regular can of soda.
The FDA regulates the caffeine content in soda cans, but does not do so in energy drinks.
With more teenagers than ever consuming these drinks on a daily basis, a major health crisis is emerging.
The drinks have been linked to caffeine intoxication, which can lead to anxiety, rapid heartbeat, restlessness, insomnia, and other symptoms.
In rare cases, it can even result in the death of the patient.
The study was published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence.
