Vitamin C May Reduce Effectiveness Of Cancer Drugs
October 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, taking vitamin C in high doses may actually prevent cancer drugs from working effectively.
Cancer patients who take vitamin C supplements may actually be doing more harm to their health than good.
The belief in the past was that by taking a vitamin C supplement, they would improve their immune system, improving their chance to fight cancer.
This is not the case though, according to researchers from the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Pennsylvania.
What they found was that vitamin C actually caused all chemotherapy drugs to work ineffectively.
Patients who were treated with vitamin C had 30% to 70% fewer of their cancer cels killed in treatment, compared to those who did not take the vitamin.
The study was published in the journal Cancer Research.
