Some Cereals Your Kids Eat Contain Over 50% Sugar

According to a new report released by Consumer Reports this week, some breakfast cereals consumed by U.S. children contain more than 50% sugar......Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by Consumer Reports this week, some breakfast cereals consumed by U.S. children contain more than 50% sugar.

Consumer Reports conducted their study on 91 kids aged 6 to 16, looking at how much cereal they ate.

They then focused their attention11 different cereals, which were all considered to be very popular among kids in the U.S.

What they found was that these cereals contained more than half sugar.

The cereals wihch had more than 50% sugar by weight included Post Golden Crisp from Kraft Foods Inc, as well as Kellogg’s Honey Smacks.

9 of the brands of cereal they looked at had at least 40% sugar.

The healthiest brands of cereal were said to be Cheerios, Kix, and Honey Nut Cheerios, all from General Mills.

Life was another healthy cereal, from Quaker Oaks.

The biggest issue, even beyond the sugar, was that kids were found to usually pour 60% or so more than the serving size.

Kids who eat cereal that is healthy for them were more likely to have better nutrition, fewer weight issues, etc.
