Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study carried out by researchers from University College London, workers who go on sick leave have a higher risk of death.
University College London researchers carried out their study by looking at sick leave records of 6,478 British civil servants from 1985 to 1988.
What they found was that the workers who had medically certified absences, or approved sick leave time, were at a higher risk of death.
Male and female workers who went on sick leave one or more times in a three-year span had a 66% increased risk of premature death.
This compared to those who did not go out on sick leave from work.
Those who went on sick leave due to a circulatory illness were 4 tiems more likely to suffer a premature death.
