Doctors Say Exotic Pets Pose Danger To Health Of Kids
October 6, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new report published in the October issue of Pediatrics, exotic pets such as monkeys, rodents, reptiles, etc. should be kept away from children. This is due to the fact that they could cause disease to spread for those with weak immune systems.
The exotic pets in question here include hamsters, turtles, monkeys, and others.
The report was released by the American Academy of Pediatrics, and focused on exotics pets and how they can impact the health of children, and others with weak immune systems.
The report urges the need to educate parents about the risks of exposing kids to exotic pets.
Health risks include potential allergies that could be developed, as well as infectious diseases.
Since 1992, the report states that the number of exotic pets in the U.S. has jumped 75%.
Many of these reptiles, fish, etc. were imported illegally into the United States.
This could bring about the introduction of new diseases which could put kids at serious risk.
