This was the second fly-by for the NASA Messenger spacecraft, which originally went by back in January of this year.

It got within 125 miles of the surface of Mercury, which is extremely close.

The plan now is for the Messenger to continue until it is able to settle into orbit around Mercury in March 2011.

This latest fly-by covered 30% of the planet that has never been seen before by anyone.

The images reveal big craters, a pattern of rays, and much more.

These images reveal newly discovered cliffs on the surface of Mercury, while much more is set to come.

The NASA Messenger still has one more scheduled flu-by to complete.
