The first study was led by Dr. Brenda Morris of the University of Texas Medical School, and looked at 1,974 infants in total.

They found that babies who weighed less than 2 pounds were more likely to die if given more aggressive treatments.

In the smallest babies under 2 pounds, the risk of death increased by 13% with the aggressive care.

An example of these aggressive treatments was known as light therapy, which could cause great harm to the infant.  That study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.

The second study looked at how early insulin therapy would impact the tiniest premature babies.

What they found on a study of over 300 babies was that by putting them on insulin from birth, their death risk increased by 12% after just 4 weeks.
