(Update) Diabetics On A Fish Diet Prevent Kidney Disease
November 5, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - A new study published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases has found that adults who have diabetes can prevent kidney disease by eating fish.
British researchers were led by Dr. Amanda Adler from Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
The study focused on a total of 22,000 middle-aged men and women for the study.
Out of the 22,000, 517 of the men and women had developed diabetes.
Researchers found that the adults who consumed fish twice a week were able to prevent kidney disease.
This was due to the fact that they had far less protein in their urine.
Overall, kidney disease was developed in 18% of adults with diabetes who did not eat fish, compared to 4% who ate fish regularly.
