Migraine Headaches Cut Risk Of Developing Breast Cancer
November 6, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study, women who have a history of migraine headaches have a lower risk of developing breast cancer.
The study was led by Christopher I. Li and colleagues and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
For the study, researchers focused on data from two population-based, case-control studies.
The data came from 3,412 post-menopausal women from the Seattle area.
Out of these women, 1,938 have been diagnosed with breast cancer, while 1,474 have no history of the disease.
The idea was to use the two groups of women to be able to compare migraine headaches and the risk of breast cancer.
What they found was that overall, women who had a history of migraine headaches were 30% less likely to develop breast cancer.
This was compared directly to women who have no history of these headaches.
The study was published in the November issue of Cancer Epidemiology.
