(Update 2) Women’s Hands Have More Germs Than Men, Why?
November 6, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - A major medical question this week comes as researchers have found that women have more types of bacteria living on their hands than men. The question is, why do women carry more bacteria, what causes this?
Researchers from the University of Colorado carried out the study on a total of 51 participants.
They looked at 102 hands in total and found 4,700 different species of bacteria living on them.
Only 5 bacteria species were found to be common among all of the hands looked at in the study.
An interesting thing that they found wa sthat there were more types of bacteira on the hands of women compared to men.
So why is this the case? Why do women have more types of bacteria on their hands than men?
One main reason may be due to the fact that men generally have more acidic skin.
On top of that, there are also major differences in sweat and oil gland production between men and women.
Women are also far more prone to use cosmetics, as well as moisturizer products among other things.
Though these reasons have not been proven scientificially, it is possible they could be the reason.
