November 10, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Researchers have come out and announced that a new study on the anti-lung cancer drug Tarceva has shown that the drug is effective in slowing the progression of the disease.
The development and marketing of the new drug Tarceva is a joint effort between OSI Pharmaceuticals Inc, Genentech, as well as Roche Holdings.
Executives from OSI announced the results of a new study late last week known as Saturn, and the results were very promising.
The results of the study are going to be submitted to a medical conference, as well as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
What the study found was that the drug was successful in earlier stages of lung cancer treatment.
The study, named Saturn, was conducted with 889 patients from 160 sites around the world.
The study revealed that after chemotherapy treatment failed, the drug succeeded in slowing the progression of lung cancer.
Upon the announcement, shares of OSI rose by over $5.00 to top $40.
