Will Obama Succeed In Expanding Health Insurance Coverage?

There are currently 47 million people living in the United States without health insurance.

During the Obama campaign, he made a huge push for health care reform, and was seen by virtually everyone as the best candidate to fix health care.

The idea behind his plan was to try and expand employer-based health insurance.

If companies did not want to offer health insurance, they would have to pay into a government fund which would then offer health insurance to others at a reasonable price.

Obama has made it clear all along that he wants health care reform, but it will be no easy task.

The biggest issue is the fact that with the economic crisis in the U.S., money is in short supply for Obama to make any huge changes in health care.

The economic crisis is surely going to take precedent over health care reform, which could delay things slightly.

Experts still feel though that by 2010 we will see a huge reduction in the number of Americans living without health insurance.

The United States has to make a wholesale change to the Health Care Fiasco it now endures, like most free countries in the world the one equation the U.S. must remove is the Insurance companies.

They operate as a profit making entity, and as such everything they touch is a potential for profit. To succeed America must remove the Insurance Industry from the mechanics of health care providers.

Like Canada, Europe, Australia, and a host of other countries. health care is administered through the Government by a National Body not for profit .

Taxpayers fund the system through income tax, and a monthly user fee, usually under a $ 100.00 per month, in addition some insurance companies are allowed to sell insurance for extra coverage such as chiropractors, massage therapists, and prescription drugs, usually at a minimal monthly fee.

Drug prices are set by the Government’s and are considerably cheaper than the U.S.

Changing over from a free enterprise, for profit industry to a government run system won’t be easy, but it is necessary, If you are sick and require health care of any kind, you shouldn’t have to choose between getting better or losing your home.

Amend the Constitution if you have to, but get it done.

If we had government-funded universal healthcare, many uncompetative US businesses wouldn’t have that “excuse” why they can’t compete. Personally, I don’t know if the excuse is valid or not. Rather than giving the auto industry 25 billion to conduct business as usual, the government should have taken over their health care obligations. That would most-likely cost less than 25 billion and it would be a good test of how the government could manage health care and test to see if the auto industry can compete without this burden.
