Washington (dbTechno) – A new study has found that MP3 player headphones do not mix well with heart devices such as pacemakers or defibrillators.
Researchers have found that headphones used for MP3 players such as the iPod cause a great deal of interference with these devices.
In some cases, it was found that the headphones actually caused the pacemakers and defibrillators to deactivate.
It has nothing to do with the MP3 players, but instead has to do with the magnets in the headphones.
The study was carried out on a total of 60 patients who had headphones near their chests.
They found that the headphones caused interference in 14 of the 60 patients.
Interference was twice as likely with a defibrillator compared to pacemaker.
The interference took place when they were within 1.2 inches of the heart device.
