The cholesterol drug rosuvastatin is also known as Crestor, and was found to greatly reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke in those with elevated levels of the C-reactive protein.

Researchers were led by Dr. Paul M. Ridker of the Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.

What they found by analyzing a group of men and women was that those who took the drug showcased big benefits.

The statin was found to reduce the risk of heart attack by 54% in those who had normal cholesterol levels, but elevated levels of the C-reactive protein.

On top of that, it also reduced the risk of stroke by 48%, and the risk of mortality by 20%.

The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
