Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study, taking vitamin C or vitamin E supplements does not reduce the risk of developing cancer.
These findings come from the Physicians’ Health Study II as it focused on a total of 14,600 male doctors in the U.S. who were all 50 and older.
The doctors were split up into two groups overall to test out how effective vitamin E and vitamin C were.
The first group had half the doctors take 400 IU of vitamin E or a placebo, while the second group had the doctors taking either 500 mg of vitamin C every day or a placebo.
Researchers from the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston then monitored the doctors for a period of 10-years while they were on this routine.
What they found was that overall, there were 1,929 cases of cancer, including 1,013 cases of prostate cancer during the study.
They found no difference in the cancer rates between the doctors who took vitamin C or vitamin E, compared to those who took the placebo.
This study shows that the vitamin supplements do not provide the same potential benefit to the body.
The best way to take in the vitamins, according to researchers, is through a healthy daily diet.
The study was presented at the international meeting on cancer prevention hosted by the American Association for Cancer Research.
