Amgen Forced To Suspend Trial Of Promising Cancer Drug
November 20, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Amgen Inc., a unit of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. has been forced to suspend a late-stage trial of a very promising cancer drug.
The experimental drug in question is known as motesanib and was going to be used in combination with other drugs as something that could treat lung cancer.
The other drugs it was designed to work along with include carboplatin, as well as paclitaxel.
Data has shown that those who take the new experimental drug experience higher early mortality rates.
This compared directly to patients who were not on the drug and instead were taking a placebo.
Amgen has immediately pulled the plug and suspended the trial.
