November 24, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - A new study has linked exposure to hairspray and an increased risk of birth defects in babies.
According to the new study, pregnant women who are exposed to hairspray are far more likely to have a baby with a birth defect.
The study was led by researchers from Imperial College London, University College Cork, and the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona.
What they found was that hairspray was linked to a birth defect known as hypospadias.
This is a genital birth defect which can impact a baby boy.
The link is believed to be due to a chemical in hairspray that is known as phthalates.
