ACP Pushing For All Patients To Be Screened For HIV
December 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The American College of Physicians (ACP) has come out and urged for routine HIV screening so that all patients can be screened for the virus when they go to the doctors.
Many health experts have been pushing to make HIV screening routine for quite some time now, but have yet to be successful.
The idea is to make HIV screening as normal as stepping on a scale or getting your blood pressure checked.
The American College of Physicians (ACP) has come out on World AIDS Day and is urging for all to routine check for HIV in all patients older than 13-years old.
In the United States alone there are more than 1 million people infected with HIV.
There are also many new infections each year that go undetected due to the fact that people do not get screened for it, but that may change soon.
The guidelines state that physicians should offer screenings to all patients and follow up with more routine screening on a case-by-case basis.
They have published their new recommended guidelines to follow in the Annals of Internal Medicine Web Site.
