FDA Reveals What A Safe Level Of Melamine Is In Baby Formula
December 1, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has come out and stated what a safe level is for melamine in baby formula. This comes after the toxic chemical was found in one type of baby formula in the U.S.
The FDA originally stated last week that they were not able to say what a safe level of melamine was in baby formula.
Many health experts threw in their two cents by stating that there was no safe level of melamine.
That did not stop the FDA though as they have come out and stated that the trace amounts of melamine found in the baby formula were perfectly safe.
The FDA revealed the safe level by stating amounts of the chemical that are below 1.0 ppm do not cause any type of public health concern.
The big fear was that U.S. kids could be hit as hard as kids were in China.
Back in September, thousands of babies in China were sick due to tainted baby formula.
According to the FDA, their testing of 87 samples has revealed that some of the samples did contain trace amounts of melamine.
These include Nestle’s Good Star Supreme Infant Formula, and Enfamil from Mead Johnson, with other results still pending.
The levels found though are far below the level set by the FDA and are safe.
