Your Happiness Can Make Others Smile, It’s Contagious!

Washington (dbTechno) – U.S. researchers have published a new report which has revealed that your happiness can make others smile and be happy.  Happiness has been found to be highly contagious.

Researchers from Harvard University as well as the University of California, San Diego carried out the study and looked at the relationships of roughly 5,000 people over decades.

The idea behind it was to study the various relationships and see what impacts various moods had on other people.

What they found was that if someone else around you is happy, you are 15.3% more likely to be happy as well.

A lot of it weighed heavily on a few factors, but the biggest was geographic proximity.

The closer happy people are to others, the more likely they would be able to put them in a happier state.

A happy friend who lives less than 0.8 km away makes others 42% more likely to be happy.

This same happy friend though who lives 3.2 km away only makes you 22% more likely to be happy.

In regards to siblings, a happy sibling can make you 14% more likely to be happy if they live within 1.6 km.

The same can be said for your spouse, as a happy spouse who lives in the same house as you can make you 8% more likely to be happy.

Even a smile from your next-door neighbor can make you 34% more likely to be happy.

The study has been published in the British Medical Journal.
