December 7, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - Supermarkets across Europe have been ordered to remove Irish pork products from their store shelves after the pork has tested positive for the chemical dioxin, which can cause cancer.
Irish pork products such as ham, bacon, sausage and other types of products have been ordered to be removed from store shelves.
It is believed that many countries were carrying the tainted Irish pork, as the warning has been spread out across all of EUrope.
Consumers are being told not to eat any Irish pork products after the chemical was found.
The chemical dioxin has the a bility to infect an animal by getting into the living space of that animal.
If it is ingested by humans at unsafe levels, it can actually contribute to the development of cancer.
Health officials have stated that the levels of the chemical that were found in the Irish pork are around 200-times over the limit considered to be safe.
Officials in Ireland are working to see just how far the contamination goes.
It is believed that the major countries which received the Irish pork include China, Russia, Italy, Germany, and France.
