Boston (dbTechno) – According to the latest reports, the Carter Center has stated that we are close to totally eradicating the Guinea worm.
The Carter Center, founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, has announced that the infection rate has been reduced by 99%, with it now nearly eradicated completely.
The only places where Guinea worm is now being seen is in countries such as Sudan, Nigeria, Ghana, Mali, and Ethiopia.
Though some are being reported, the total number of cases is said to be below 5,000 at this point, compared to over 3 million which were confirmed back in 1986.
The Carter Center has been leading the push to rid of the Guinea worm by using various methods of treatment and prevention tactics to kill the worm.
To mark the push to try and rid of the disease for good, they are working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as well as the UN, and Britain’s Department for Internationnal Development.
“with the virus now nearly eradicated completely”
It’s not a virus; you can say “the parasite”
or bear the wrath of the biology gods.
I don’t get it, is it a worm or a “virus”.
Guinea worms are large parasitic worms – not a virus, as the article states. They breed inside your body and emerge, painfully, months later, often from your lower legs.
