FDA Throws Support Behind Cholesterol Drug Vytorin
January 9, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has thrown their support behind the cholesterol drug Vytorin from Merck & Co and Schering-Plough Corp.
A review was carried out looking into the drug, its safety for patients, effectiveness, etc.
The FDA found in their review that the cholesterol drug was effective and should still be a drug that is used by patients to lower cholesterol.
The drug has already been aproved by the FDA to lower bad cholesterol, and increase good cholesterol.
It is a combination drug of Xocor, as well as another cholesterol drug Zetia.
The drug has been found to be effective in helping lower bad cholesterol, but it does not help in lowering the risk of heart attacks and stroke.
The FDA has still thrown their support behind the drug though because the feeling is that with lower levels of cholesterol, that automatically reduces the risk of cardiovasular disease.
