Pozen has been working on their experimental arthritis drug PN 400 for quite some time now, and was pleased to hear the good news.

Upon the announcement that the FDA accepted the endpoint of the trial, and stated that the goals had been reached, shares for the drug company skyrocketed.

The new drug is a combination of the painkiller naproxen, as well as a drug from AstraZeneca known as esomeprazole.

The two companies, Pozen and AstraZeneca, have been trying to develop this drug as a partnership.

The goal was to create a painkiller drug that did not do as much damage to the stomach.

The results of the late-stage clinical trials revealed that there were fewer gastric ulcers which were developed by patients taking the drug.

In the middle of 2009, the plan now is to submit a new drug application to the FDA for PN 400.
