Recall Of Peanut Butter Products Expands Due To Salmonella
January 29, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - The latest revelations in regards to the nationwide salmonella outbreak has sparked a whole new expansion of the recall of peanut butter products in the U.S.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has come out and announced an expanded recall of products which came from the Peanut Corporation of America.
The FDA has been investigating the Blakely, Georgia plant of the company, as it is believed that the source of the salmonella outbreak was located there.
What the FDA has found was that there are actually more strains of salmonella than originally anticipated.
The expanded recall now includes many new products, adding to the list of over 400 or so products which have been recalled to this point.
The new products included in the recall are such things as oil roasted peanuts, granulated peanuts, peanut paste, and other things made since January 1, 2007 at the plant.
It is also believed that products which were known to contain salmonella were shipped in both 2007 and 2008 to consumers.
The outbreak to this point has sickened over 500 people in just about every state in the U.S.
It has also been linked to the deaths of a total of 8 people.
