Memory Clinics In UK Aim For Better Treatment Of Dementia
February 3, 2009
London (dbTechno) - The UK Department of Health has announced a plan to vastly improve the treatment of dementia with the opening of memory clinics across the country.
The health secretary Alan Johnson is pushing for improved treatment of dementia.
The idea behind all of this is that if patients are treated early enough, they can vastly slow the progression of the disease.
This is a huge initiative that is going to be launched in the UK with the goal of training every single GP to pick out early signs of dementia.
On top of that, memory clinics are going to be set up across England to help diagnose people.
Once diagnosed, these memory clinics are also going to be used as a source of prescription drugs and treatments to delay the progression of the terrible disease.
As of right now, over 550,000 people live in England with Alzheimer’s disease, or another form of dementia.
The scary aspect of this is that there are less than half of them which are registered as having the disease.
They hope to change this w ith the new initiative and vastly improve care for those with dementia.
