February 16, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - Companies who produce peanut products such as peanut butter and such are feeling the impact that the salmonella outbreak has had on consumers.
The Peanut Corporation of America has been the focal point of the latest nationwide salmonella outbreak.
The outbreak has sickened over 600 people since early September across 43 states in the U.S.
On top of that, the outbreak has also been tied to a total if 9 deaths.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been working with the CDC and others to carry out the investigation into the outbreak.
It is not only the Peanut Corp. of America that has been taking the hit from the outbreak though.
The entire U.S. peanut industry has been hit hard as expected sales are not being met by any means.
Sales of peanut butter have dropped 22% across the U.S. in the month of January compared to one year ago.
This is only going to get worse as more in regards to the outbreak is revealed.
Since the outbreak began, more than 1,800 peanut products have been recalled.
