Being Overweight Is Just As Unhealthy As Smoking Heavily

The study was led by Martin Neovius of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, as he and colleagues looked at data from 45,000 men who went through military conscription tests in Sweden in 1969 and 1970.

When these tests took place, all of the 45,000 men were of the age of 18.

When the men went through this study, they had to reveal a variety of things such as their weight, BMI, how much they smoked, height, etc.

A follow-up period them came after, lasting around 40 years for some of the men.

What researchers found was that men who were of normal weight and non-smokers had the lowest death rate.

They also found that being overweight was just as bad for your health as smoking 10 cigarettes each day.

Those who are obese by age 18 are more than twice as likely to die premature compared to those who are of normal weight.

This means that those who are obese are just as likely to die prematurely as heavy smokers.

If you are obese and a heavy smoker, your risk of premature death increases five times over.
