Depression Risk May Be Measured By Thickness Of Brain
March 25, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, researchers have revealed that you can actually measure the risk of depression by looking at the thickness of a person’s brain.
The study was carried out by researchers from Columbia University Medical Center, as they focused on a group of volunteers to see if there was a link between brain thickness and depression.
This imaging study looked closely at the brains of these volunteers, and what they found was startling.
When the brain began to think out on the right side, researchers believe that this is a sign of a high risk of depression.
This thinning is found in the right cortex, and goes hand-in-hand with less brain matter.
This is most commonly seen in families who have a history of depression.
The study is set to be published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
