Washington (dbTechno) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a new drug from Novartis which aims to fight kidney cancer.
The drug was approved on Monday by the FDA under the name of Afinitor.
Afinitor was approved by the FDA to treat the most common form of kidney cancer, renal cell cancer.
Patients were tested in a trial to see just how effective the drug was at stopping tumor growth.
Over the course of the study, patients on the drug were able to live twice as long as those not on it.
This revealed that the drug was effective in allowing patients to live longer, and was also approved to be taken along with other drugs.
The drug is apparently going worldwide as well as they have submitted the drug for approval in Japan, and Europe.
Researchers stated that the tumor growth was delayed by a period of 5 months thanks to the drug.
