Study Reveals Fish Oil Does Not Help Heart Attack Patients
March 31, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, taking fish oil supplements or omega-3 fatty acids do not help heart attack patients.
The study was carried out by researchers from the University of Heidelberg in Germany, and aimed to see if these supplements could help those who have survived a heart attack.
For the purpose of the study, they focused in on 4,000 people who had all suffered heart attacks.
They then compared the end result of those who were taking the fish oil supplements to those who were not.
What researchers found was that there was no benefit at all to those who took the omega-3 fatty acids.
There was no change in terms of the rate of stroke, sudden cardiac death, heart attack, etc.
There was no added benefit found beyond just taking medicine currently available.
The findings have been presented at the American College of Cardiology’s annual meeting in Orlando, Florida.
