Potential Source Of Salmonella Found In Pistachio Plant
April 7, 2009
Washington (dbTechno) - It appears that researchers have found a potential source of the salmonella outbreak at a pistachio plant in California.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has come out and stated that investigators have found traces of salmonella bacteria in a pistachio plant.
The plant is the Setton Pistachio plant which is owned by Terra Bella Inc.
This is not small plant, as they are actually the second largest producer of pistachios in the United States.
The company has already announced a voluntary recall of over 2 million pounds of nuts, with the recall expanding yet again.
This company sends out their nuts to a wide variety of food companies meaning they are widespread.
The investigators have stated that the bacteria was found in areas which could have contaminated the pistachios.
This comes as the recall has been expanded yet again to include not only shelled pistachios, but also raw and roasted pistachios.
The FDA has stated that as of right now, consumers should avoid eating pistachios or any nuts.
There have yet to be any illnesses linked to the salmonella outbreak.
