New Breast Cancer Drugs Show Amazing Promise
June 1, 2009
Boston (dbTechno) - A new class of breast cancer drugs are showing an amazing level of promise in their ability to treat the terrible disease.
This new class of breast cancer drugs is known as PARP inhibitors, and have shown the amazing ability to actually combat hard-to-defeat breast cancer tumors.
These same tumors have shown a high level of resistance to more common treatment techniques.
There are a few different companies working on this new class of drugs, one such being a drug from Sanofi Aventis.
Studies have shown that these new drugs can help extend the survival rate of women with breast cancer.
In a study on the Sanofi Aventis drug, the median survival rate was extended in over 100 women studies. The survival rate of these women with severe breast cancer tumors increased from 5.7 months up to 9.2 months.
These drugs have shown the ability to shrink tumors in the majority of patients treated, at far higher success rates than chemotherapy.
Only time will tell how successful these drugs are in the long run, but the fact of the matter is that they could save many lives down the road.Boston (dbTechno) - A new class of breast cancer drugs are showing an amazing level of promise in their ability to treat the terrible disease.
