Diabetes Drug Lantus May Increase Cancer Risk
June 30, 2009

Boston (DbTechNo) - Diabetes patients are being urged to stay on a popular drug to treat their disease even though it maybe linked to increased risk of cancer.
The drug is called Lantus and is manufactured by Sanofi-Aventis.
Multiple studies have just been released that suggest the drug may increase risk of cancer in diabetes patients who take the drug to manage type one and type two diabetes.
The drug is taken once daily and is a version of fake insulin, a hormone used to regulate bloodsugar levels in the body.
The American Diabetes Association recommends that diabetics taking Lantus should not stop taking it, but consult their doctors if they want to switch medications.
The studies published in the journal Diabetologia, featured more than 300,000 participants.
