Blood Protein No Indicator of Heart Disease Risk

July 1, 2009

Results of a new study show that high levels of a type of protein in blood does not indicate heart problems
Boston (DbTechNo) - Results of a new study show that high levels of a type of protein in blood does not indicate heart problems.

Previous studies have hinted to heart disease risk in those people with high levels of C-reactive protein, but this recent study begs to differ with that finding.

This study was conducted by researchers from Imperial College London and other leading world universities and featured more than 30,000 participants.

By analyzing blood of the participants, those found to have high levels of the protein in their blood were not at any greater risk of developing heart disease.

Because of their study findings, the authors of the study say that it is pointless for doctors to prescribe protein lowering drugs to patients.

The study is published in the Journal of the American Medical Association
