Meat Company Expands Beef Recall

July 2, 2009

Concerns are being raised across the US over a massive beef recall announced late last week
Boston (DbTechNo) - Concerns are being raised across the US over a massive beef recall announced late last week.

With the July 4th weekend coming up, millions of Americans will be firing up the BBQ and cooking beef that may actually be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.

JBS Swift Beef Company, based in Colorado is recalling beef that is believed to be contaminated with E. coli and are calling distribution customers to inform them of the situation.

In total, more than 420,000 pounds of tainted meat is being recalled.

“It is important for consumers to note that the recalled product from the date in question was sold by JBS as whole muscle cuts, not as ground beef,” company spokesman Chandler Keys said Sunday. “The ground beef that might have been associated with illness was produced by other companies who often do not use the antimicrobial intervention steps we employ in our facility to reduce the risk of the beef products.”

E. coli poisoning can be very dangerous, resulting in vomiting, diarrhea, head ache, and fatigue.
